Byrnlea Park Arabians was established in the summer of 1988 by Denis & Dianne Hewat and my late father Norm Lay, from whom my love for arabian horses was inherited. Previously a breeder of partbred arabians, my father was captivated by the purebred arabian and we are inspired to continue his legacy.
Australian natives, soaring red gums, and weeping willows are scattered throughout our property, which is situated on fertile irrigated pasture at the base of the foothills of the Great Divide, located at Upper Maffra West, 203kms east of Melbourne, Victoria.
The purebred colt Top Gun (*Simeon Sa’ar x Dynasty Jamin) bred at Simeon Stud by Glenn North, was purchased as our foundation sire at two years from Don & Carmel Rowley of Pearsons View Arabians, this association with a link to the past, has endured for many years. Top Gun is a paternal grandson of the legendary El Shaklan and the Marbach bred *Damirah, and a maternal great grandson of the Polish super sire Bask, this outstanding and much loved bay colt was to set a precedence for our egyptian related breeding program.
The refined egyptian/polish mare *Damirah (Hadban Enzahi x Hamdi) achieved in both breeding and showing, attaining the prestigious title of 1985 Australian Champion Mare. She is featured throughout the pedigrees of our egyptian related bloodstock, through her renowned son *Simeon Sa’ar by El Shaklan and her alluring daughter Simeon Sarah by *Sankt Georg. Simeon Sarah has produced many exceptional progeny with descendents now in New Zealand and the Kingdom of Bahrain, and we are very privileged to own two of her most beautiful and treasured offspring in her son Pearsons Sarron by Simeon Stav and daughter Pearsons Sarchi by *Simeon Shagrir who is the stud matriarch.
Another special Damirah granddaughter is the golden and gorgeous Show Me. A full sibling to Top Gun, she is adored by all, and we have had the pleasure of owning, showing and enjoying Show Me for the past decade.
Additional Egyptian lines have been introduced over the years, via the influential straight egyptian stallions Simeon Stav (*Asfour x Simeon Safanad), Stavs Kru Sayd (Simeon Stav x Simeon Shaina) and *Salaa Sihr (Salaa El Dine x Ansata Nile Magic) along with some optimal Russian lines through the egyptian/russian stallion *Simeon Samuel (Jamil x Novina) and the russian bred stallion *Simeon Shagrir (Plakat x Nadira).
During 2006 we commenced a straight egyptian breeding program with the purchase of Simeon Saski (*Asfour x *Mohema) a straight egyptian mare of undeniable beauty. Saski produced consistent offspring for her previous owners, having progeny exported to both Japan and Germany. This Asfour daughter had long been admired and we are very pleased have Simeon Saski as our foundation broodmare.
Our most recent acquisition is the exquisite yearling straight egyptian filly Stavs Sfiyah (Simeon Stav x Simeon Sima) a line bred double Asfour granddaughter, her dam being a full sister to Simeon Saski. We have patiently awaited a special straight egyptian Simeon Stav daughter, and we are confident we have found her in Stavs Sfiyah.
Our aspirations are to preserve and perpetuate the timeless beauty, the light and expressive movement and the spirited presence of the classic arabian horse. With defined selection based on pedigree and phenotype, and ever mindful of the standard of excellence, our intention is to create individuals that are undeniably arabian. In achieving this result we choose to breed with the finest Egyptian, Russian and Golden Cross bloodlines, thereby incorporating the breed type and inherited strength of blood of the great stallions Hadban Enzahi, Kaisoon, Ghazal, Ansata Ibn Halima, Morafic, Ibn Galal, Alaa El Din, *Asfour, Salaa El Dine, Ansata Halim Shah, Jamil, Aswan, Plakat and El Shaklan, and the equally acclaimed mares Hanan, *27 Ibn Galal V, Malikah, Aziza, Bint El Bataa, Moniet El Nefous, Simeon Safanad and *Damirah.
We look forward to the future of Byrnlea Park Arabians and the next generation of both our Egyptian Related and Straight Egyptian breeding programs.
